I placed a split-coil transformer around the hot wire of my sump pump. An embedded processor reads this value and detects when it turns on, and starts recording the number of milliseconds it is active. When it shuts off, the processor sends an MQTT message to a local gateway. Every hour the gateway generates these plots and uploads them to a secured public AWS S3 bucket. Picture here.
